Please connect to the internet to use Google Calendar Sync – Outlook 2010

Today I realised that my calendar wasn’t synching between my android phone and my Outlook 2010 at work using Google Calendar Sync. I went into the Quick Launch area and clicked sync on Google Calendar Sync and got this error “Please connect to the internet to use Google Calendar Sync”. After a few minutes of poking around I discovered that Google uses a COM Add-in object in Outlook 2010 in order to sync the data. In Outlook this COM Add-In was disabled. I turned it on and suddenly Google Calendar Sync started synching. To resolve this issue yourself, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Open Outlook 2010 and Click on file on the top right hand side of the screen.
  2. Click on Options.
  3. On the Options menu click on “Add-Ins”.
  4. On the Add-Ins screen on the Manage dropdown select “COM Add-Ins” and press “Go”.
  5. On the COM-Add-Ins menu, select Google Calendar Sync and press ok.

Right click on the Google Calendar Sync Quick Launch icon and press “Sync” to manually initiate the syncing process. Then you’re done.

  • I have been browsing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours Please connect to the internet to use Google Calendar Sync – Outlook 2010 — Thoughts. It’s pretty worth enough for me. In my view, if all webmasters and bloggers made good content as you did, the internet will be much more useful than ever before.

  • Thanks a lot for this post ! I migrated last week to Outlook 2010 and was struggling for the sync to work.

I’ve tried this over and over and it keeps failing! I switch on the option and it locks up and the next time I open Outlook the option is switched off again and it won’t sync. I’m at my wits end trying to get this to connect. Any other suggestions out there?!

I believe Google calendar sync has been discontinued. Existing set-up should work but you will no longer be able to associate a new device. You can find more info about it here:

My tutorial will only work with devices that are still associated.
